I first visited Vancouver Island’s famous Cathedral Grove (MacMillan Provincial Park) back in the Summer of 2013, and was immediately spellbound. I was trying to make it to Tofino before nightfall, and with the sun waning in the sky, had only maybe twenty minutes to linger and enjoy it, but that’s all it took for the gargantuan trees and the timeless energy of the place to imprint themselves indelibly on my mind. I hadn’t even yet begun my adventure in graphic design at the time, but as soon as I had developed a basic competency in Illustrator I decided to try drawing a Cathedral Grove poster from memory. Inspired by the US National Parks posters of the mid-1900’s, it is one of my earliest completed works and remains one of my best selling prints to this day.
Prints are available on my Etsy shop here.
